Statement:

Unlock Your Ignorance, Save Our Last Hope

Brief:

‘Unlock Your Ignorance’ brings the meaning of eliminating our unawareness towards our environment which is getting worse each day. In this poster, the first sentence of the statement is visualized by a hand which represents us unlocking the earth to save the last tree.

Subsequently, ‘Save Our Last Hope’ simply brings up the meaning of saving our environment where in this poster; it is illustrated with a tree surrounded by fire. Those little three-leaf clovers which represent happiness shows that tree provides us happiness in the sense of calmness, oxygen and greenery. Therefore, we should not let the fire (global warming) kills our last hope of happiness.

Extra

-In oneself lies the whole world and if you know how to look and learn, the door is there and the key is in your hand. Nobody on earth can give you either the key or the door to open, except yourself.

Finally, the process of making my global warming poster, the third assignment for Computer Graphic 1. Now, stay tune everyone! (I mean it. It's an order)

Step 1: Yes, like the usual. Upload your sketch, set it to template, adjust the opacity, set the grid line and ready to be spoiled!

Step 2: By using pen tool (p), (which I'm delighted because I can control pen tool better than before) , I trace the hand carefully. Step 3: Use pen tool and ellipse tool to outline the key. To combine both shape, open (shift+control+f9) pathfinder>shape modes (add to shape area)>expand.

Step 4: It will then look like this! Tadaa!

Step 5: Next is the keyhole. Use ellipse tool and press shift to draw a perfect circle. For the bottom part, draw half of the bottom key and go to object>transform>reflect>vertical>copy. Adjust the copied side to make it look symmetrical to the original side.

Step 6: Apply the same technique in step 3 and voila! A keyhole xD Step 7: Now to draw the earth. Use ellipse tool and draw a perfect circle. Then, use the scissors tool (c) to cut half of the circle.

Step 8: Delete half of the circle.

Step 9: Go to effect>3D>revolve. Set the rotation to the favorable angle. As for me, I use the setting of x: -18 y: -26 z: 8 degree.

Step 10: Find a map and paste it. Set the map to symbol so you can make it look 3D-ish and follow the shape of the sphere.

UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO MY CHEAP PC WITH VERY SMALL RAM, THIS EFFECT HAS TO BE CANCELED AS IT COULD NOT BEAR THE CAPACITY OF MY WORK WAWAWAWAWAWA >A<

3D EFFECT : REJECTED

Step 11: I drag some part of my illustration (second assignment) and use it in my poster.

Step 12: Clean up the unnecessary parts.

Step 13: Nice and clean =)

Step 14: The coloring part is here! Here I used pen tool to outline the hand and use pencil tool in shading the hand. I couldn't find a good reference on the net that I have to keep looking at my hand when coloring it. "OTL Anyway, the tones used here are:
A> C: 35,29% M: 69,02% Y: 97,25% K: 33,73%
B> C: 10,59% M: 43,14% Y: 74,12% K: 0%
C> C: 2,35% M: 35,69% Y: 58,43% K: 0%
D> C: 0% M: 25,88% Y: 40% K: 0%
E> C: 1,57% M: 21,57% Y: 28,63% K: 0%

Step 15: I open the swatch library and search for metal swatch. By using pentool, I filled the color with different tone to make it look shiny. The gray tones used here are:
A> C: 62,75% M: 54,12% Y: 51,37% K: 24,31%
B> C: 38,43% M: 30,2% Y: 29,02% K: 0%
C> C: 22,35% M: 17,25% Y: 16,47% K: 0%
D> C: 16,86% M: 13,33% Y: 11,76% K: 0%
E> C: 8,24% M: 5,88% Y: 5,88% K: 0%

Step 16: TADAA! Here is the key to success!

Step 17: To replace 3D effect, I use the normal flat effect and paste the map symbol on it. Excessive unwanted part is erased with eraser tool. The opacity is then adjusted to 29% in order to give the see-through effect. The keyhole is adjusted to size 10pt to make it look more appealing.

Step 18: Basically the idea is done. Now left the background and the font =)

Step 19: The fun part is here fuuhwahh! xD Now use your pen tool and make two desire curves.

Step 20: Go to object>blend>make.

Step 21: After that, go to object>blend>blend options. Set the setting to spacing: specified step with desire amount of stroke (for me, I use 20)

Step 22: Voila! Can you see the curve nicely done? It's easy and the effect it's great =) (Thx to those tutorials out there. Can't survive without those kind people ;w;)

Step 23: I played around with the blend effect and here is the outcome.

Step 24: To add some shining effect, I used flare tool to shows that the key is giving out the light of hope. =D I set the opacity to 81% because I couldn't see the key at all if it is set to 100% @_@

Step 25: Add the statement and some short description at the suitable place. The font I used is Viking-normal and the size of the font used are 45pt and 12pt respectively. Copy and paste the symbol from assignment 1.

OMG IT'S DONE! WEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAA

LAST HOPE

Ideation:

This is the final look of my second submission; Illustration of Your Area. Basically, the concept I'm trying to use here is by using one single tree surrounded by fire to show our last hope of saving our tree from the cruel world out there which one of it is caused by deforestation. As you can see, the tree is completely being surrounded by fire and the chance of saving the tree is very thin as we need to pass through the blazing fire. The message I'm trying to tell here is the obstacle to save our trees now is higher as the global warming is getting worse from day to day. However, we should hold the responsibility to protect our few last trees. Those little three-leaves clovers represents happiness which I want to express is that trees give us happiness in the sense of it provides us calmness, oxygen and greenery.

A bit about deforestation:

Tropical forests include dense rainforests, where rainfall is abundant year-round; seasonally moist forests, where rainfall is abundant, but seasonal; and drier, more open woodlands. Here comes the process of making The movie of Wal..I mean the process of making my second assignment: ILLUSTRATION OF YOUR AREA

1st step: As usual, I set my sketch/reference in template form as shown in the first assignment's process.

2nd step: I then use pen tool to ink the art line based on the sketch. Instead of using pen tool by connecting each dot and using smooth tool to smoothen the line, I've learn that we can make smooth curve line using pen tool alone by pressing long on one spot and move it to make the curve we want.

3rd step: The coloring process begin. I choose the colors I want to use in my illustration by making my own swatch and taking some from swatch library. I filled the background with sky color after experiencing with a few tone. Then I proceed to coloring fire. I first filled with the base color; red followed by orange and then yellow to form a more realistic fire instead of one flat color.

4th step: I continued with the ground part by applying the same technique of coloring. I tried to apply cracking effect but somehow I failed =( But personally, I think this effect it's not that bad.

5th step: With the same technique, I colored the tree and tried my best to make those little details on the tree to make it look wood-ish.

6th step: The hardest part is here. I tried to apply a few layer of color to make it more 3D but it seemed so weird that I decided to let it be like this.

7th step: By using pen tool again, I draw and filled the sky with suitable color. Originally, I tried to use the technique shown by one student in class by using Gaussian blur tool to make the cloud effect but it's not suitable for my illustration so I have to cancel it.

8th step: I use the pencil tool and draw those little clover to add some greenery effect on my work.

9th step: And TADAAA! I'm finished with my second illustration!

Personal comment: The only part I like the best is the fire and those little clovers. I was kind of upset with the tree I did but I'll try my best to improve my skill in using Adobe Illustration (= Cheers.

So, as you can see, I'm using tree and fire as my two most important element in my assignment. Basically in the sense of calculation, (TREE + FIRE = DEFORESTATION) ∈ GLOBAL WARMING

Title: Deforestation

Meaning of symbol: Our society should stop being ignorant and act fast in preventing deforestation to minimize the effect of global warming.

Metaphor: The keyhole and three-leaf clover

Meaning of shapes:

~The keyhole represents our unconcern on global warming. We don’t look much into this serious matter and keep to our immature mindset of thinking that global warming is not giving much impact to our life yet. So, by applying the keyhole concept, we are actually just looking into this global warming matter through the keyhole instead of opening the door itself.

~The outer layer surrounding the keyhole represents the ozone layer. Those thin lines show the thinness of our ozone layer which allows excessive sun rays and ultraviolet ray to enter.

~The three-leaf clover represents happiness, love, hope, united-ness and our selfishness in deforestation.

Most people know that four-leaf clover represents luck but not all know the hidden meaning of three-leaf clover; happiness. Basically, this clover is representing the flora in the world and it brings happiness for the future generation.
The shape of clover which similar to love shape is trying to convey the message to love our earth.
-This clover is also bringing the meaning of hope. It stands strong even it is the last entity of plant. We, human should work together to save our last hope before it is too late.
-The number of clover represents the united-ness of different ethnics in our world. We should put ourselves together hand in hand to save our earth from the harshness of global warming.
-Lastly, it also shows the selfishness of us in practicing deforestation. Every plant on earth has been cut down and only one, small clover is left, living in fear of being cut too.

~The ground represents the emptiness of earth as uncivilized human practice deforestation without thinking of the effects. The thin layer represents the thin layer of soil due to erosion.

~The different layer of fire represents the stage of danger of global warming. The fire is showing the plant being trap by the fire which shows mercilessness, danger, and unsympathetic of global warming.

Meaning of colours:

Red ozone layer- To convey danger, warning, anger and extreme heat.

Yellow, orange and red fire- Shows the stages of danger of global warming with yellow as the first stage follows by orange and then red. Yellow shows the cowardice of society in taking action to prevent global warming, orange represents the energy of sun as the sources of heat while red express violence and power.

Dark brown ground- To shows the dullness of earth without tree.

Light brown layer- To express steadfastness of the thin layer of soil to keep the small clover stays firm.

Dark and light green clover- It represents the environment.

Blue sky- To shows the calmness of dawn where it seems like as if the earth is really cool and calm.

Relation to deforestation: The whole concept is giving out the message of society not being concern about the activity of deforestation which heavily affect the earth’s temperature and lead to global warming. Our community should hold out their hand to save our trees instead of being ignorant.

Well, as promised, the step by step to succes....erm, I mean, step by step to the final work of my symbol. |D

STEP 1: Open your sketch file into your workspace. Set the sketch as template by clicking the button and click template. This will prevent it from being printed (But for safety, I'll just hide the layer or delete it when printing the symbol =P)

STEP 2: Go to view> show grid to give you better guideline in making your symbol. Change the opacity of the template so the grid can be seen through your template.

STEP3 : I start by using the ellipse tool. Click alt while using this tool to create a perfect circle. Then, I change the thickness of the line to 25pt.

STEP 4: Use pen tool to create the bottom part of the keyhole. Use grid as guideline to ensure it will be symmetrical.

STEP 5: Cut the unwanted part with scissors tool as shown above.

Step 6: Erase the selected line with the path eraser tool to create the keyhole shape.

STEP 6: In order to make the ozone layer (outer layer of the keyhole), I use the scale tool and set the scale to 120%. Then, click copy to duplicate the line.

STEP 7: Erase unwanted lines by selecting them with direct selection tool and use the path eraser tool.

STEP 8: Use pen tool and pencil tool to draw the ground, fire and clover. Smoothen the line with smooth tool where needed.

STEP 9: I open the swatch library as shown in the screenshot and use the color properties>warm, and nature>landscape swatch. Then, I start filling the color with the desired colors using fill and stroke by selecting the layer I want with direct selection tool. I change the brush stroke for the ozone layer to chalk effect.

STEP 10: I try putting a symbol of rabbit that is drawn using pencil tool. However, I decided not to put it since it doesn't really seem right with the whole concept. Plus, I have to concentrate on one smallest topic only.

STEP 11: I change the color with a darker and richer scheme to make it look more attractive. Check for any minor mistake and edit to make it as perfect as possible. FIN.

Ermm well, some of you who read my previous journal would know that I crapped a lot about ice-cream, right? You might think that “OWH this girl gonna do a symbol about ice cap melting yadayada” And I was like “OWHYEAHI’MGONNADOAVERYUNIQUESYMBOLYEAAAAA"

And so, I sat on my blue, uncomfortable hostel chair, with a brand-less pencil in my hand, staring deep onto my ugleh, hand-made sketchbook, with heart and soul burning with spirit. There, my hand started to move, as if it has its own mind and thoughts, dancing freely on the white floor, following the rhythm of music played by WMP. Oh, yesss I can feel it. I can feel the greatness of my symbol yeahhhh.

One hour later...

NAWWWWWWWWWW my brain is completely blank! Using ice-cream as my metaphor is tooooooo common! I can see it everywhere on the net! “OTL

And so…ice-cream has become part of my computer graphic’s history //tears//

Now, I have to face yet another problem; finding new idea. The tense atmosphere really kills the mood. TENSE ATMOSPHERE + GLOBAL WARMING = dead brain. Aghh, I should have not procrastinated! //curse self//

Luckily I somehow manage to dig out some ideas from my dead brain.

I'm still in haze on what should I choose as my smallest topic of global warming to be my symbol later on so for now I just do some research about what is this global warming all about.

Global warming is the increased in the average measured temperature of the Earth's near surface air and oceans since the mid-twentieth century, and its projected continuation.

Taken from our always-be-loved-website; Wikipedia. The rest are just too heavy for my lil brain so yeah, ..only the definition.

After doing my small research on this subject, I've learn that global warming is all about:

Man, that's not really nice, does it? All the things we do will less or more going to lead to global warming=destruction. Take one small example like eating ice-cream. Eating ice-cream can leads to global warming HOMGBBQFOREAL?? Ok, picture this situation. Chiko wants to eat ice-cream. She asks her big bro to buy it for her, "Eddy-onii-chan, I wanna ice-cream!" So not to make her lil sis cry, he quickly jumps onto his motorcycle and rushes to the nearest shop. There! Can you see one action there that leads to global warming? Yes! Riding the motorcycle. You all learn some basic science, right? All the toxic gases will go up there to the atmosphere and block the sunlight from passing through which then traps most of the heat back to earth yada yada. Okay, some of you might say that loving big bro can just ride a bicycle or walk to the shop (good for health too) BUT NO! Something else is increasing the global warming by that time too which is the ice-cream freezer. Chlorofluorocarbon(CFC) is being released from that freezer and more greenhouse gases are being released from all the ice-cream factories all over the world! And it is all because of us who wanna eat ice-cream because the temperature is so high now. Heh, such irony.

Ops..I think I'm running a lil bit off track from my main topic. BUT anyway~ what I'm trying to tell here is we shouldn't focus on big gigantic humongous ways of controlling global warming like build sunshades in orbit to cool the planet, tinker with clouds to make them reflect more sunlight back into space, trick oceans into soaking up more heat-trapping greenhouse gases blablabla. We're not some nuts scientists with some really wild imagination (and bucks) to use all these bewilder methods. We as normal citizens should do something about this problem too instead of just relying on the government to replant trees after cutting off all those big trees in the forest, finding more safer ways to supply electric power, etcetera. Small acts like teaching our children (that doesn't mean I have children kay) to plant flowers, spending a family time together making home-made ice-cream, car-pooling and more others can help to reduce even a lil percentage of global warming.

Hokay..I'm really getting out of topic. Anyway, I'll post my subject matter/metaphor on my next post. Man..I crap a lot..

Haro, everyone. I'll just introduce myself briefly so you can know me better, aite?
Well, my name is Ili Farhanah. You can call me anything you want. Ili, chili, illegally, illiterate, lilin, yada yada~ As long as it sounds like my name xD

I am currently an MMU Cyberjaya student in the Faculty Of Creative Multimedia, taking foundation course. So basically, I'm an Alpha student (I seriously like how they named the years. It sounds so cool lol xD) I made this blog specially for my assignments for Computer Graphic class. Hmm, actually I always intended to make a blog for myself but seriously, you have no idea how high is the level of procrastinating in me orz. There's so many things I would want to express yet no words can describe it (Literally. Or in another word, I'm just bad in expressing my thoughts in words D:) "OTL

Well, I'm a Perakian. IPOH MALI XD I simply love manga, anime, J-drama, or anything related to Japanese.
